How long is my commitment?
The original commitment period was from May 2016-2018. Those committing part way through Uncharted should consider their commitment based off the remaining months until May 2018.
What are you asking me to do?
First and foremost, we are asking that you pray and seek God’s leading on what He is asking of you. Prepare your heart to hear Him, and then listen to what He says. Talk with your spouse, your family, or others about what this commitment will mean for this next exciting season of your life. We are asking that you make a sacrificial commitment to generosity – whatever it is that God leads you to do. Follow Him. Finally, we ask that you prepare to be amazed. We serve an awesome God, and He is going to move in huge ways. We anticipate an unprecedented impact from our collective Uncharted commitments – something only God can do. Please mark your calendar for re-commitment on Sunday, May 22.
Are there additional ways besides finances that I can give more toward Uncharted?
Be creative as you explore ways you and your family can give toward Uncharted. You might have some stock, property, or other items of that nature. Or you may have some stored resources that God has blessed you with in the past that He might be calling you to give during this time. Please let us know if you need assistance with facilitating gifts of property or stock, and we would be happy to help you with that. You can contact Daniel Shelton at email@example.com to make a gift of this type.
Will our church go into more long-term debt to accomplish this initiative?
Our leadership has made the conscious decision not to incur any additional long-term debt throughout the Uncharted Initiative. Our only current long-term debt is associated with our Southwest Campus property which is currently listed for sale.
Is the sale of the Southwest Campus property figured into this initiative?
While our initial desire was to separate the funding of our Uncharted initiative from the sale of the Southwest Campus, our eldership decided in June 2016 to proceed boldly with the original objectives that were established. We trust that God will provide just as we had encouraged our congregation to boldly trust him. We are praying that our full financial goal will be achieved through a mixture of Uncharted offerings and/or the sale of Southwest Campus property.
What if I don't have a job right now? What does that mean for my Uncharted commitment?
Uncharted is about your total, radical, and sacrificial generosity for South Side Christian Church. We believe that God calls us to action in times of hardship just as much as He does in times of abundance, and that looks different for every person. But Uncharted is about a heart change- one that is accomplished by surrendering our lives completely. So that may mean that you are being challenged to sell things, to pick up odd jobs, or even to trust God in faith by making a commitment that you don’t quite know how to fulfill right now but that you believe God will provide for as you seek ways to sacrifice and work toward that commitment. We would like for everyone to be a part of Uncharted so that we can all be supporting, loving, encouraging, and praying for one another through this spiritually-stretching season at South Side.
What if I am severely in debt right now? Am I supposed to give?
If you are currently seeking to pay off debt, we commend you for that. And you should continue to do so. We would be happy to help you on that journey and/or recommend a budgeting class that might minister to you. Being in debt, however, does not have to prevent someone from giving. Giving isn’t about what God wants from you; rather, it’s about what God wants for you. So it can be our joy and privilege to give at all times. Please contact us if you need assistance with a plan to get out of debt. We would be honored to help: firstname.lastname@example.org.
What if I have never given to South Side before?
Uncharted was designed specifically with you in mind. Uncharted is a “one fund” generosity initiative, meaning that it is different from a traditional giving campaign where you are called to give an extra gift above and beyond your normal giving – creating TWO steps for people who aren’t yet giving. Uncharted is a call to sacrificial, gospel-centered generosity for absolutely everyone at South Side. If you have never given before, this is your chance to get in the game and commit to the work God is doing. We really hope you will.
What if I am new at South Side?
Uncharted is about the vision of our church. We believe that the local church is one of the most compelling missions to give toward, and we would really love for you to make South Side your home and join us in Uncharted. If you are ready for it, this is a perfect time for you to put a stake in the ground and make this your church.
